Backcountry Touring

Feeling limited by in-bounds terrain? Ready to build the skills and gain the experience necessary to ski outside of the resort? Backcountry skiing takes center stage at the RIDGE Gap Year and Ski Academy programs. You'll get training, earn avalanche certifications, get aquatinted with the latest backcountry gear, and gain experience planning tours during your RIDGE Gap Year or Ski Academy winter semester.

Go beyond the gates and into the backcountry with RIDGE:

Ski touring is a key training tool for all student athletes at RIDGE and is one of the best ways to build endurance during the winter.

Backcountry Touring: Backcountry skiing and snowboarding takes you beyond the confines of groomed slopes. At RIDGE Snowboarding in the backcountry allows you to find the deepest powder stashes, far away from crowded lift lines. You'll gain the skills and certifications required for planning backcountry trips. At the RIDGE snowboard academy, you'll have access to the latest in splitboard technology, receive coaching specific to backcountry touring, and you'll ride lines that few others ever see.

Here's how we integrate backcountry touring into RIDGE campus based programs

Gap Year at RIDGE: RIDGE ski and snowboard coaches create rider- specific training programs, so that you can take your frontside skills into the backcountry. You'll gain more backcountry focused experience and training in one season than most skiers and riders will get in a lifetime. Depending on conditions and the schedule, you'll spend an average of 2 days per week skiing and riding in the backcountry with RIDGE coaches.

Backcountry Ski and Snowboard training for elite athletes: You'll work with RIDGE coaches all season to take your riding to the next level in the backcountry. Want to learn what it takes to travel and ski safely in the backcountry?  Ready to take your skiing and riding to the next level ? The RIDGE Backcountry Ski and Snowboard  Academy might be right for you!

RIDGE High School Snowboard Academy: When you take a semester off to ski or snowboard with RIDGE, you'll get the training, certifications, and skills required for all backcountry skiers, while attending high school classes in the afternoon. You can schedule your class times with RIDGE coaches and academic advisors to ensure that you don't miss out on the next day of backcountry powder skiing!
