Coach - Climbing Lead
Jake Frerk has put himself “out there” in the mountains for almost 2 decades. Growing up in Northeast Massachusetts his first love was the ocean quickly followed by the mountains. Jake grew up in a very outdoor oriented family, enjoying hikes and camping trips at a young age. He first skied over the Tuckermans Ravine Headwall when he was 15. Jake chose to attend Plymouth State University due to its outdoor education program and its location in the middle of the White Mountains of NH. During his four years there he hiked all 56 of the 4,000 foot mountains. His passion for outdoor adventures grew as his experiences became more diverse. In college he learned how to rock climb in Rumney, NH and backcountry ski in the White Mountains. Jake was an active leader in PSU’s outing club, guiding undergraduate trips all over New England. This is where he discovered his passion to instruct and share in the powerful experiences that are found in the mountains.
Jake graduated from PSU and went on to lead well over a hundred trips in the outdoors with high school students in the mountains and deserts of Utah. His background is very well rounded, as he began working as an outdoor professional in the therapeutic field of boarding schools in 2008. Jake has led trips including whitewater, canyoneering, rock climbing, backpacking and skiing. When Jake is not working with students he is making sure that he is getting after it himself in these same disciplines. Jake is very excited to have the opportunity to work with the motivated students of Ridge Mountain Academy and help them discover such passion themselves!
